Happy World Book Day from all at Swalecliffe!!!

Just a reminder that classrooms will be open to parents at drop-off to kick-off World Book Day with a chance to share some reading activities with your children. We look forward to seeing you and gates shut at 9.10.

What an absolutely brilliant day of getting ready for World Book Day tomorrow. Some of our children had the chance to go to an author event with the Tamara Macfarlane and the hilarious Gilbert. The children loved it and we hope to involve many more in the future. This evening, Miss Garton, Mrs Hughes and Miss Smith attended an evening of picture book training with Lillie McCotter from the Reading Room. They were joined by the absolutely amazing Anthony Browne CBE and have some wonderful ideas to bring back to school. These were free events which is just fantastic! Now for some Forest School wonderfulness! Fire lighting was a firm favourite in Term 3 in Forest School and we saw some amazing resilience, collaboration and peer teaching from our children to get their fires lit despite the January weather! An amazing quote from a child in 3G, having spent the whole session trying (and finally succeeding): 'It's easy to get a spark but you've got to work hard to turn a spark into a fire'. Well done!!!

Wow, Mrs Back has been busy!!! Our phonics grab-bags are nearly ready!!! These will be used to support our children in small groups or 1:1. They will help to practise blending, recognition of tricky / common exception words and recognition of GPCs (grapheme-phoneme correspondence).

1 / 1 Friday 7th February was 'Times-Tables-Tastic' Challenge Day. Throughout the day, we were signalled by a radio message that it was time to start our challenges. We had five minutes to complete different 'Times-Tables-Tastic' challenges. These ranged from: quick fire recall, Hit the Button, singing to multiplication songs, writing down as many multiplication facts as possible, multiplication card and board games, pattern spotting and so much more. As you can see from the photos we had a lot of fun! Thank you for your support with our fundraising. Tomorrow is the last day to bring in sponsorship money please.
